There is an excellent non-profit that began operating in late 2008 that is very complementary to the mission and goals of CareForTheTroops
Veteran´s Heart Georgia fosters the healing of veterans of all wars by attending to the spiritual and emotional needs of veterans, their families and our communities.
We urge you to link to their web site and take advantage of their training and support activities. CareForTheTroops is inclusive and believe that by working together we can best support the returning veterans and their extended family members.

By Robert Certain, a re-print of an article he wrote in 2001, on the 30th year after being a POW.
VETERANS DAY 2001
Today marks 10,920 days since I became a POW in NVN
At 1313 GMT on 18 Dec 72 Hanoi time, my B-52 was hit by a Soviet-built SA-2 missile.
Some say that the number 13 is an unlucky number. This is almost a worldwide belief. You will usually never see a room numbered 13, or any hotels or motels with a 13th floor.
Perhaps 1313 was not a good number for me, and it certainly was not a good number for those killed
But I was fortunate – I lived, survived, and continue to live.
But, look at the back of a one-dollar bill and think about this:
- 13 original colonies,
- 13 signers of the Declaration of Independence,
- 13 stripes on our flag,
- 13 steps on the Pyramid,
- 13 letters in the Latin above (annuit coeptis),
- "God has favored our undertaking."
- 13 letters in "E PLURIBUS UNUM",
- 13 stars above the Eagle,
- 13 plumes of feathers on each span of the Eagle's wing,
- 13 bars on that shield,
- 13 leaves on the olive branch, (we are a people of peace)
- 13 fruits, and if you look closely,
- 13 arrows (we must sometimes fight to win the peace)
And for minorities: the 13th Amendment.
The Rev. Robert Certain is rector at St. Peter & St. Paul Episcopal Church in Marietta, Georgia. Author of Unchained Eagle: From Prisoner of War to Prisoner of Christ, he is the founder and president of the Unchained Eagle Memorial and Benevolent Society, Inc.
