There is an excellent non-profit that began operating in late 2008 that is very complementary to the mission and goals of CareForTheTroops
Veteran´s Heart Georgia fosters the healing of veterans of all wars by attending to the spiritual and emotional needs of veterans, their families and our communities.
We urge you to link to their web site and take advantage of their training and support activities. CareForTheTroops is inclusive and believe that by working together we can best support the returning veterans and their extended family members.
Congregation Directory
Introduction
A key aspect of the CareForTheTroops Initiative is building a support structure for military members, veterans, and their family members in each and every community. Congregations and congregation based programs are essential to getting this accomplished. Building Military Ministries in each Congregation is our goal.
Below is a list of Congregations that have signed up to build Military Ministries. Each is a Veteran Friendly Congregation (VFC) and some have taken on the role as a Lead Congregation. Please refer to the highlighted links to learn more about VFC and Lead Congregations.

Operation Sandbox at
Good Shepherd, Covington
Below is a picture from Operations Sandbox. Good Shepherd created 160 stockings that got stuffed anddistributed to the deployed troops from the local National Guard Unit. Pictures are Virginia Pearson the co-founder of Operation Sandbox, Pat Fernety, and Sgt. Brooks of the 48th Nation Guard unit from Winder.

Blue Star Group at
St Thomas Aquinas, Alpharetta
The Blue Star Group at St Thomas Aquinas(STA) is well established and very active in their support activities of the military and their families.
Pictured below (clockwise) are: STA meet and greet activities with the USO at Hartsfield Airport; Congregation members signing a Banner of Support for deployed troops; and one of STA's banners displayed in Afghanistan. You should note in the photo, several soldiers holding packages and those were the packages of personal care items STA collected and sent with the banner. This unit did not have a PX nearby so these items were a big help.
